I am running in a relay race on the beach. i need a creative name for our team.?

it doesnt necessarily have to be about the beach...it can be about beer, or just something creative. so far the best we could come up with is "DFeet"|||Blister Sisters ('cause running in the sand always gives me blisters, but that doesn't work if there's guys on the team)

Beachcombers, Windjammers, or Rum Runners

Castaways, Team Sharkbait, or Purple Sneeze

DFeet is a sock company I think.

Good Luck!|||just coming to my mind, maybe you should try: footlose(classic) air jetters, or the raging%26gt;your team mascot%26lt;

Did you see the men's relay race last pm? What did you think? What about the reactions of the teammates?

One word..AWESOME! What an incredible race...that last guy (sorry his name eludes me right now) who anchored the race was unreal...he looked like he was rising above the water like a dolphin coming down the home stretch..when he caught the guy from France is was great..you could see the elation from the US and the extreme disappointment from team France...France had predicted that they would "Stomp" the Americans so it was fantastic to watch them go down..great, great event and probably the best swimming event I've ever seen...|||are you talking about swimming? cause if you are we kicked but..but if not i dont no what on earth you are talking about|||awesome..|||It was the best relay race I've seen in a while, that is of course because the US won. I was already seeing the Silver put on Phelps' neck when all of a sudden Lezak stroke like there was no tomorrow and passed the talkative French guy. It was one for the ages. And then seeing Phelps scream with all this emotion. It will be seen more during and after the Olympics. He is still in pursuit of his 8 Gold Medals. What a team!|||I'm sleepy at work today because I stayed up to watch that race live. I am very happy I did.

Wow! What a race!

Competiton like that is why I love sports.

As for the reaction of the US %26amp; French teams, with 50m to go everyone thought the race was in the bag for the French. I think no one expected Lezak to catch the French, let alone beat them. That's why everyone's reactions were so animated (Americans and French): They all thought the French had it won and couldn't believe the US pulled it out.

Treasure your memories of that race and remember how you feel right now. It will be one of the defining moments of this year's Olympics.|||That was in fact an amazing race, Janet. I really didn't notice the reactions of the French team (I was watching on Canadian television, and all they were showing after the race was over was the American team rejoicing...and rightfullly so!). Congrats to your guys!|||what happened ! tell me what happened ! |||It was great that the U.S. team won the gold. It was even better that the French did not.

What are the different types of hands-off in relay?

What are the different ways on how to pass the baton to your team mate in a track and field 4 x 100 relay race?|||For a 4x100 race, you should be doing a blind handoff.

The stick should start in the right hand of the lead runner. This allows the stick to be in the middle of the lane and the runner race along the inside edge of the lane (the shorter edge). The 2nd runner should set to receive the stick in their left hand. They should run the backstretch on the right hand side of the lane; it is a straight line, so it doesn't matter. They should handoff to the 3rd runner's right hand, and then it goes to the 4th runner's left hand.

To do the actual handoff, you need to practice. The receiving runner should not be looking back when they get the stick. When the previous runner is close enough, they should start running, and then stick their receiving hand out behind them, palm up. The incoming runner should be able to place the baton down into the hand. This takes practice.

Hand-offs for the 4x200 should also be blind.

Hand-offs for the 4x400 or 4x800 should be open, where the receiving runner turns sideways and looks back to get the stick.

Good luck.

How do u run a relay race? 100m each person=400m?

well it's a dash, and it's my first time running a relay%26gt;.%26gt;

how do u run one?|||The first person begins at the starting line and runs 100 meters along the first curve when the gun sounds. Then when they reach the end of the curve, they pass the baton to the second person, or the second leg in track terms. This person runs 100 meters along the straightaway then passes it to the third leg, and so on until all 4 runners finish.

Recieve the baton with you left hand, switch it into your right as soon as you get it, then pass with your right hand. When someone is about to pass it to you, start running slowly when they're around 10 or 15 feet away, then when you get the baton, sprint as fast as you can!

100 meters isn't very long so keep up your fast pace the entire time and try to hand off your baton as fast as possible so the next leg can get started as soon as possible.

Good luck! :)|||The first leg runs a 100 curve at the finish line, they pass it to the second leg who runs the straightaway, who gives it to the 3rd leg who runs the curve, who gives it to the 4th leg who runs the final straightaway. Only the first leg starts out on blocks, the other 3 runners pretend. Unlike what :] said, in a sprint such as the 4x100, you don't switch hands, you keep it in your left hand. Its the 4x4 and 4x8 that you switch hands when you get the baton.

As for tips on running the 4x1, run it exactly like you would run a regular 100, knees high, on your toes, etc. I'm assuming since your a sprinter you know the basics. What I suggest is spending time after practice working with your fellow relay runners on the hand-off, because in a sprint like the 100, 1/100ths of a second could mean the difference between going to states or finishing dead last, so work on the hand-off until it becomes almost flawless, and ask your coach for any pointers.|||This is called the 4x100 or the 400 relay, each person runs a leg of 100 meters, so you go around the track once.

The first person runs a curve, the second runs the back straight, the third runs the next curve and the last person runs the straight back to the start/finish line.

Can you help me improve my sprinting for a 200m race?

I would love it if I beat him and won the race this year so I want to know some good exercises, stretches and tips on technique that would make me a better and faster sprinter. Many thanks.

P.S: I'm also doing 100 metres for a relay race so if there are exercises that are SPECIFICALLY for 100 metres, please let me know about them too!|||I think I can help you out run the track as fast as you can 5-times.Condition and eat healthy.also GET plenty OF SLEEP!|||do some hill running - up.

its hard work, but once you get on the flats you really notice the difference.

Alternative - ankle weights. and don't use brand new trainers on the day - a pair that are run in|||try this::

when runnig, concentrate. now take your heel and make sure that lands first, not you toe or flat footed. now, with your heel roll up to your toe. but thats not all! push off the ground in this. thats what it should feel like. you may need to go slower at first to getthe hang of it. and try not to wide stride too much while your insprinting. make them short strides, but also very fast. once you put all this together, youll be good.

and remember never give up. every athlete must pay the price. the question is, how much are you willing to spend?|||honestly, you shouldn't blow this whole race out of perspective, however, i see that you are very willing to work hard for this so.... I'm not really a sprinter, however, i would seriously consider doing telephone-pole fartlecks. that means that you sprint 2 telephone-poles(or more) and then jog 1 pole and just repeat that for about 30-45mins.|||Running a good 200 you must be able to carry your speed to the finish. To do this you must be able to relax while keeping your speed. Stand up tall, relax your shoulders, carry your elbows at 90 degrees, swing your arms straight front to back, and not across your body. Relax. Start off fast and after you are at top speed, in about 40 to 60 meters do not try to run faster. Carry the speed by keeping your arms moving front to back, you can keep up your stride length and turn over rate with your arms. Let your foot strike the ground coming backward at the same speed you are moving forward, do not over stride.|||there is noting you can really do in just under 4 weeks that will make a hugh difference but plenty of self belief and sprint work ,and on the week just get loads of sleep and drink loads water and u wil b fine|||The three components of the sprint are stride length, leg speed, and endurance.

Stride length: Practice butt kicks, high knees, skipping, and exaggerated strides

Leg turnover: Speed is gained by practicing foot exercises and just running. Be careful not to do too much full out sprinting because it can hurt you if you do too much. Leg strength will help with this as well. Try this: Take one big step forward with one foot, then bend your knees so you move closer to the ground, then slowly back up. Do 20-30 reps in between rests and train both legs. This will get your legs a little stronger and faster.

Endurance: Not really endurance like a distance runner, but you should try to keep up top speed for as long as possible. if you seem to falter near the end of the race, that's normal, but not good. Either your lungs are getting tired or your legs are. Try effective breathing to get as much oxygen as you can. Cellular respiration (the process by which cells make energy) requires oxygen and if you don't have enough, your cells will stop making energy. If your legs get tired the leg strength exercises will help. Don't spend too much time on endurance, but just stay fit and you should be fine.

Extra 200m-specific tips: When you feel the lungs or legs burning (usually 100-150m into the race), enact a kick. This is a technique which saves energy with little to no speed loss. Raise your knees higher with each step and that's all you have to do. Its effectiveness might not be too noticeable for you, but its worth a try. Also remember that the 200m is a full out sprint; don't try to save energy. Good luck with beating your rival! Have fun out there!

What is Relay Race about and how to relay race?

Relay racing is strictly about team accomplishment. Not individual achievement, but relay team accomplishment.

Based on track and field set up; 400mtr relay, four members position themslvs at quarter positions around the track. Lead-off runner carries a batoon while running and hands it to the 2nd leg runner, who runs w/it and hands it to the 3rd leg runner, who does the same to the final (and usually the fastest) member of the team, whom you hope will win for you.

What are the rules in a 400 relay race?

like in a track meet, i really wanted to know what color stagger is used|||During a relay race, members of a team take turns swimming or running (usually with a baton) parts of a circuit or performing a certain action. Relay races take the form of professional races and amateur games. In the Olympic games, there are many types of relay races that are part of track and field.

Based on the speed of the runners, the generally accepted strategy used in setting up a 4 person relay team is: second fastest, third fastest, slowest, then fastest (anchor). Each segment of the relay (the distance run by one person) is referred to as a leg.

Each runner must hand off the baton to the next runner within a certain zone, usually marked by triangles on the track. In sprint relays, runners typically use a "blind handoff", where the second runner stands on a spot predetermined in practice and starts running when the first runner hits a visual mark on the track (usually a smaller triangle). The second runner opens her hand behind her after a few strides, by which time the first runner should be caught up and able to hand off the baton. In middle-distance relays or longer, runners begin by jogging while looking back at the incoming runner and holding out a hand for the baton.

A team may be disqualified from a relay for:

Improperly overtaking another competitor

Preventing another competitor from passing

Willfully impeding, improperly crossing the course, or in any other way interfering with another competitor

Making two false starts (or in some cases only one)

Making an improper baton exchange

Alba, Bobo, Coco, and Dodo are in a relay race that has the following rules: riddle?

Alba, Bobo, Coco, and Dodo are in a relay race that has the following rules: two people on the team must run together from one side of a field to the other, carrying a baton, then one person on that side of the field must carry the baton back. The goal is to get all four people across the field.

Alba takes one minute to run across the field, Bobo takes two minutes, Coco takes five minutes, and Dodo takes ten minutes. When two people run together, they can only go as fast as the slower of the two runners. Alba, being the fastest, suggests that she should run across with each of the others in turn. She says this will save time because she can run back to pick up the next teammate in only one minute. A quick calculation suggests this would take the team nineteen minutes. Coco points out that there is another method they could use that would take seventeen minutes. What method is this?|||first, Alba and Bobo, then Alba brings it back, he hands it to coco and dodo, and they take off. Then Alba brings it back so he and Bobo can go for a total of 17 minutes|||alba and dodo run together one way and bobo and coco go one way together.|||No, this is the right category... Ex: If you are exchanging the baton most likely you are not running the 800m because most of the time the baton gets exchanged half way before the first arrows and the finish line, usually the first man runs the least amount of distance, the middle two run the close to the exact distance, and the anchor leg usually runs the most. All of the legs total 3200m.

What is a 4X200m relay race?

the 4X200 is a relay where everyone runs a 200....if you are running in an indoor meet most likely it will be one lap...this race is a lot of fun and can get really crazy at indoor meets with the handoffs and all the people in the race...good luck!|||A relay race has more than one runner, each going a certain distance then passing or handing off a baton to the next runner.

A 4 x 200 meter relay race, presumably, has four runners each doing 200 meters. Or maybe each doing 50 meters for a total distance of 200.

You know, there's no shame in not knowing. Your coach should be made aware that you didn't know what event s/he's scheduled you for. You probably need to have a little practice in the hand-off before the race.|||the 4x200 is where there are 4 runners who run 200m(half a lap around an outdoor track not sure about indoor) each. im guessing you are a sprinter since you are doing this and the 55 good luck|||Everyone has the right idea. In relay races the name is stated by the distance each runner covers, so in the 4x200 you have 4 members and each one runs 200 meters. Indoors that is usually one lap.

You do not have the 4x100 indoors, so the 4x200 is the shortest relay race.

in a meet, how many points is awarded to the team that wins a relay race...do the losing team get any points?|||At my high school, for a relay first place gets 5 points and second gets 0 points. For a regular race, first get 5, second gets 3 and third gets 1 point.

Parent child relay race?

Im having a party next month and trying to come up with ideas of some activities the kids and parents can do together, relay type or other as long as their fun. so far I have piggy back race, blind fold directions: Kids tell parent where balls are. and 3 legged race. The kids are 5-6 yrs old.|||Egg and spoon race, scavenger hunt, hula hoop contest.|||One I find extremely enjoyable is having the parents balance eggs on a spoon and there can be certain obstacles such as rubber balls on the ground. It would be another guiding relay race but could be fun. Also a knapsack race but could be iffy depending on the childrens' height.

Passing on inside of track during relay race?

what are the rules for passing on the inside lane during a high school track relay race|||passing on the inside lane?

wouldn't you stay in the same lane?

but if you don't, i wouldn't pass on the outside lane; then again, i wouldn't quite know, i'm distance.

i usually pass to the right of them; otherwise, i might be disqualified for not being on the track.

meaning when i pass them, they'd have to look right to see me.|||As long as you are not outside of the lane marker for 3 steps, you should be fine. However, you should not try to pass on the inside for a relay race because if you cut another runner off, your team will be disqualified. The only reason why you should pass on the inside is if the other runner is straddling lane two and is giving you a clear path to the inside.

Just be smart about it and it is better to be safe than sorry|||For the most part, the "three step rule" is a myth. In most competitions, you can be disqualified if at any point your foot hits the inside or outside lines of your lane. Most officials will not disqualify athletes for this reason unless they are obviously trying to cheat or it is a high-level competition, though (for example, two athletes were disqualified in the 200 men's final in Beijing for just hitting the line a couple of times).

How is a relay raced played?

I teach 2nd grade and I have a group of 19 students. We want to do a relay race with another class that has the same number of students. What are the rules and ideas of this game?|||It's good that each group has 19 students!

Here's a link to some relay races ideas:

http://www.partyplan.co.uk/asp/GameList_鈥?/a>|||A relay race is where you put an even number of students a specified distance apart. (Lets say 100 yards and 20 kids to make it easy) You put ten kids on each side of the 100 yards and start the race on one end. The first student races to the other end and tags off by slapping the hand of the next student in line. Then they race back to the other side until all 20 students have had their turn. The first student that is number 20 to cross the line will win the race. If you have two classes of 19 either one student needs to go 2 times to make it even or one student from each class needs to stand down. Have fun!

The French team said, "The Americans? We are going to smash them. That's what we came here for." and by the last quarter, the French were in the lead by four full strokes, with USA right behind them.

Then, five feet to the end, the American dude catches up evenly to the French guy, and pushes up to the wall first. GOLD!!!

The looks on the French faces was priceless. And Michael Phelps and team USA were ballistic! I don't know why I was rooting so hard for them. Distance Medley Relay:1200 m(3 laps),400 m(1 lap),800 m(2 laps around) and 1600(4 laps around)|||Use the Go-Zone strategy. The theory is that during the hardest part of the race (the 1/2 point to the 3/4 point) is when you should be running the fastest. That means start of swift, then back off to a comfortable, but still fast, pace. When you get to the halfway point, start passing people. Then, once you are almost there, sprint to the finish.

It takes a determined effort, but it has proven effective in many races. Usually, everyone starts to slow down from 1/2 to 3/4 way throught the race, so it would be the easiest time for you to pass them.

I have a 4 x 100m relay race next four days later. How can I increase my speed fast without any equipments?

It's a 100m so stamina wouldn't really be needed as I would just dash wit all me might.|||You can't. You can allow your body and your muscles to rest to prepare for your race. Getting a massage may help if it's not too soon before the race. If you put any additional stress on your body at this point, so close to race day, your muscles may not be able to recover in time to perform efficiently in your relay. Just relax, trust your training, and run your race in head in the coming days.|||If Anabolic Steroids are not an option, then I would say to workout out moderately, and make sure that you don't overdo it. If you're rested, you'll perform at your best. I will get thumbs down for this, I know it, but Anabolic Steroids would make you faster than a racehorse. Just go to your doctor, pretend like you're sick, and maybe he'll prescrible prednisone, or something like that.......|||Do reapeats. Take it easy and do 200M, wait till your heart rate goes down just a bit and do it again. Rinse and repeat.|||You can't really do anything to increase your speed i just four days.|||You really can't do much to increase your speed in just four days.

However, you can get with your teammates and practice your handoffs. It doesn't matter how fast you run your legs, it only matters how fast you get the stick around the track. Good handoffs can cut time. Bad handoffs can end your race.

Also, if you are the first runner, you can work on your start and maybe improve a bit there. It's not so important for the other 3 legs.

Good luck.

Doed any one have good relay race tips?

Any good relay tips.

Also whats a good time for a 400m relay(100m each)|||Handoffs are definitely (%26lt;--- sry, i always spell that word wrong) key. Especially for the 4x1 and 4x2. If you have a sloppy hand off, you're adding onto your time. Make sure everyone's comfortable with those

Handoff timing is also important. The person recieving the baton wants to get a running start. That way, the other person doesn't run up on them. At the same time, u don't want to start too early either.

Also, order is pretty important too. All the legs are important, but i had an experience where i was the anchor leg (idk why cuz i certainly wasn't the fastest on my relay team) and we were in first. Then, once i got the baton, this other girl caught me cuz the anchor legs r typically the fastest. So u'd probably want your fastest person last, cuz they have to keep the lead, the second fastest first and the third fastest second.

As for time, my team's got the state record, and that's 48.46.

Hope this helps. =D|||When you are about to relay the stick, tell the guy receiving to start jogging to gain speed. So The receiver wouldn't just stop and wait for you. If your team does this, you can relay it easily. This spares you 3-4 seconds in the clock.

Oh and this is just a 400 meter relay divided to your teammates so you don't get tired a lot. Just sprint the fastest you can. While sprinting hold your breath (not too much) and don't forget to swing your arms.

Good Luck!

Does anyone have any tips on a mile run relay race?

I was wondering if you should try to sprint the whole way, or in the beginning, or at the very end? Also if someone comes up from behind and you're really tired, what should you do?|||A mile is really too far to sprint. To train for it, you should try running more than a mile, so that the actual race will seem relatively short and easy compared to your training.

If you're running hard, you SHOULD be tired by the end of the race. You just need to tell yourself that your team needs you, the race will be over soon, and run through the pain and fatigue. :-)

Good luck!|||Are you talking about a relay where everyone runs a mile? or is it the 4x400 relay where each person runs a 400 and it adds up to a mile? with a 400 its basically a sprint so run as fast as you can the whole way but save some for a really fast finish in the end. If you are running a mile, then try to keep up a fast steady pace the whole time, but DON'T sprint. get a fast start to get ahead of other runners and try to stay in your same position. Halfway through try to increase your speed, you will have gradually slowed down over the distance. Push yourself but save just enough energy for a really good sprint at the end! If someone passes you in the last leg, you need to push yourself as hard as you can- even if you are really tired you still have more energy than you think. If you want it hard enough it will come out!|||I'm running a mile on Thursday for school and was wondering similar things about the race.

I've been told to run with the pack. It really depends on how good you are as a runner, some people could sprint a mile, while others would struggle. Keep a solid, controlled pace, and sprint at the end. If someone catches up try keep with them.

Good Luck|||For half a mile keep a good pace. Then after the half a mile; for about 400 meters (1/4 of a mile) give it all you got. Then just hold it and keep on running till you finish.(its gonna hurt)

I have a 100 meters flat to fun tomorrow for a relay race at my school! How do I run faster!?

It's tomorrow and I need to know how to run faster! My school is shutting down this year and I really need to make my school proud. We run against 7 other school that participate. There fast too! Also, we have to jump over hay bales that's 50 meters long. Help!|||The only way you can run "FASTER" as you've asked here is by one of two ways; either you're born with natural speed or long periods of training. Since it sounds as though you have had no serious training (otherwise you wouldn't be asking this question and would know this) that leaves only the previously mentioned possibility, have natural speed. Without either of those you have no chance. If you just want to know what is the best way to run as to finish as fast as you can, then the keys are the start, your leg turnover, your arm swing and your breathing. You must get off to a great start and build up as you go running full out with all you have, you must maintain control over you body employing a fast stride, fast short strides as opposed to long slow strides which you need to employ in a longer distance race. Your arm swing should be rapid and short directly next to you sides not across your chest that is waisted energy everything should be focused in front and behind you and finally you must control your breathing. The rhythm of your breathing is going to directly correlate to the amount of conditioning you have without conditioning you will not be able to control your breathing and that in itself will prevent you from being able to run as fast as you possibly can. Best of luck to us all and you in your race, ciao.

How do they detect if a swimmer goes too early in a relay race?

what equipment is used to detect if a swimmer goes too early in a relay race|||for most meets the officials decide if someone false starts but for large invitationals and championship meets they use relay judging pads. they are tied into the meet management computer system along with the starting horn and touch pads. the relay judging pads serve three purposes.

1. if a swimmer starts before the official starts the race then the person gets disqualified.

2. they have lights on the front called speed-lights that flash when the race is started because light travels faster than sound so you get a faster start.

3. they also help with relay false starts. if the swimmer on the block starts before the first swimmer hits the touch pad then they get disqualified.

contrary to the previous answers these pads do exist but they are very expensive and not normally used so that is probably they have never seen them before.|||there are starting line judges|||The swimmers stand on a sensor-pad,which is activated as the swimmer jumps into the water. If it happens before the gun,it automatically "flags it up".|||It depends on what kind of competition it is. Most of the time, for dual high school meets, it's determined by the one referee for the meet who stands near the starting blocks (by the 4m line by the backstroke flags) and he watches each finish/takeoff very closely to catch any early takeoffs (and he/she is usually very accurate through many years of experience).

For bigger meets involving multiple high schools or high profile meets (league finals, postseason, olympic) there are multiple refs who are typically positioned around the 4m line on the sides of the pool to watch the take off.

In my experience, even for high profile meets, I've never seen a pad on the diving block itself (the pad would be made of a different texture than standard blocks and would therefore influence, slightly, how the swimmer takes off). I've only seen refs/line judges who call early takeoffs.

I've swam for 7+years and I've participated in pretty big meets, but I've never dived off a block that had a pad on it so I'm not sure what the person who answered before me is referring to. I've also seen some high profile meets like SoCal Grand Prix (which a few Olympians swam in - Phelps, Kitajima, Katie Hoff), college meets, and plenty of big high school SoCal meets and I've never seen the pad on the diving blocks before.|||i have never seen a pad on the diving blocks, but the swimming officials(the people dressed in all white with a clipboard) watch the whole race from start to finish and they use their eyes and if a swimmer flinches or moves slightly then they make everyone stand up and say" swimmers, take you mark...beeep!!! and press the button (signal thing) for everyone to go and start the race. So, really it is only humans who can detect if a swimmer goes off the blocks too early

ihope this helps :)|||there arent any "sensor pads" on the diving blocks... there are officials standing there to watch and make sure the person swimming touched the wall before the person diving left the block.

How to Run a Relay Race?

My church is doing a relay race today to raise money for charity. In all honestly, I don't know how to run a relay race. Is it just like a normal foot race? I really want to do this for charity, but I don't know what a relay race even is. I would practice if I knew what to do. I really want to win because I have a lot of people putting money on my team.|||A relay is a foot race that consists, usually, of 4 people. Each person runs 25% (1/4) of the race and they do their individual portion by them self. The first runner starts the race and, while running, they carry a tube, called a 'baton', that is similar in size and shape to the cardboard tube you find in the middle of roll of paper towels. Organized track teams usually use a tube that is very light and made of aluminum.

As the first runner approaches the second runner, the 2nd runner starts a light jog. There is a certain distance on the track in which the 2nd runner may start and, by the end of that distance, the first runner must have given the baton to the 2nd runner. This exchange of the baton is called the 'hand-off'.

The second runner then runs with the baton during her/his quarter of the race and hands-off the baton to the third runner and so on.

In real track, if the baton is dropped during the hand-off or the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th runner does not get the baton by the end of that marked off distance, the relay is disqualified.

Many times, such as in church races or recreational competition, variations of relays are made up. There might be 8 people or 5 people and each person may run the same portion of the race or the race organizers might assign different distance for each runner.

You can take a closer look at what happens in a relay at this youtube video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=nt38AsO7eXQ%26amp;f鈥?/a>|||Well, is this a track or field event?

What are some good pool relay race ideas?

with things like pool noodles %26amp; kick boards.|||I agree with the previous poster. There are also cone relays where you put an orange traffic cone on your head and swim.

Under/over. So, the first person swims the length under water. The second person swims on top but can't breath. Repeat pattern

Eternal relays. Teams start on opposite sides of the pool. The object is to the lap the other team. It usually takes awhile.

Partner relays: Someone is the arms and someone is the legs and as partners you swim to the other end and then switch.

Sculling: Everyone has to scull|||Wet T-Shirt relays are fun.

Have the first person put on a t shirt over their swim suit then swim to the other end, then they have to take off the shirt and pass it on to the next person who has to put in on and then swim back. Repeat.

You could also do things like kickboard races (just kicking with the board) and noodle races having the noodle either under your arms or straddling it like a horse.

How do you run a relay race?

I'm running a relay race on Friday for Sports day because I'm a fairly fast sprinter. However, I've never actually tried passing or receiving a baton before. When you run to pass the baton to others, do you slow down and how should you receive the baton?|||First a coach ideally, or the relay team, less ideally decides the running order of each member of the relay team. The runner with the best start should usually be chosen for the first (leadoff) leg. This runner should be good out of the blocks and able to position the team well for the first exchange. Normally, the anchor leg runner is the fastest member of the team, capable of running down other runners who may have gaid a lead over the course of the relay. The middle two runners should be capable of holding the lead or expanding the lead (under ideal conditions).

It is vital to team success that the team practice full speed exchanges with the baton and limited to the legal exchange zones (within a 20 meter zone). If the relay is a true sprint relay, 4X100 or 4X200, the exchanges must be blind passes if the team is to be competitive. For Sprint Medley (400, 200, 200, 800) and 4X400 you may be able to so some visual exchanges; this is however, not the optimal or fastest option since the runners will inevitably decelerate to make the exchange.

Your team would likely benefit from consulting a training video or a track and field coaching manual which explains how to use a tape or chalk line as the start line for the outgoing runner who can then be accelerating prior to the incoming runner's reaching the exchange zone.

At minimum, a relay team would need to devote one full training session to practicing the baton passes and mechanics of the relay, running a full race pace. While the practice baton passes can be done from distances of 50 meters, at least two full distance runs should be done prior to competition.|||you should practice first. You only have a short space to pass the baton. Ideally you do not slow down to give off the baton, the other person gets to speed first. The receiver holds his arm down and behind him with the thumb and fingers open to receive (palm facing you). The pumping of your arms brings the baton forward and you push it into the receiver's open hand, which makes that person react and close his hand, and you let go.

If you do not have the timing down, lots of problems can happen and the baton can get dropped or you can run through the passing zone.

You need to practice. Very important. Practice the exchange.

I used to run relay way back in high school.

How should I train for a relay race?

I'm considering doing the Reach the Beach relay race in NH. It's 200 miles and you get teams of up to 12 people. It starts in the mountains and ends at the beach and occurs within 24hrs. How do I train for a race that I'm not going to be running the entire thing? I'll be doing 3 legs of varying lengths equalling a total of about 16.6 miles. After each of my legs, I'll have down time until the rest of my team runs their legs. How do you train for something like this?|||You train for the distance of the leg you are running. If the longest leg is 10 miles you can train for that distance. You are going to have hours between legs, so you can rest. You know you can not run each leg as fast as you could if you were only going to run one leg, but you will be able to run very fast because you have a long time between legs.

Make sure you drink plenty of water and eat something between runs.

What's the best way to train for a long-distance relay race?

I will be running ~17 miles, spread over three course legs, in a 200-mile relay race on a team of 12 runners in September 2007. I currently run ~3 miles three to four times per week, and I realize that I'll need to start running doubles to train effectively for this race. How else should I go about training for it?|||First, it depends on your goal, both as an individual and as a team. It's a lot of fun hanging out with running friends for 24 hours. It helps if there's a general agreement on what the goals are; e.g., win an award, do well but have fun, just survive. Depending on how serious you/the team are will dictate how seriously you need to train for the relay specifically, vs. treating the relay as training itself and a fun event with friends.

Doubles (two-a-days) are not necessary. Unless you're at the volume of training where you might go to 2-a-days anyway, you could end up getting injured. You don't really need to go there until you are at around 50-70 mi per week, or 8-10 hrs per week or funning.

If you're not there, then build up your long runs to about 12 miles. Several weeks of that should be enough to through three 6 mi runs. Build-up means start where you are, add a little distance, allow your body to adapt to the new distance, then repeat.

The keys to doing well in a relay are:

1. Don't race too hard on the first leg. Treat it more like a tempo workout than a race, perhaps 15 sec/mi slower than you might race that distance. Every 10 sec/mi you go too fast on leg 1, could cost you a minute/mi on your last leg.

2. Immediately after your leg, jog/walk for 3-5 min. This will help you stay loose. Don't jump in the van right away. You are much more likely to get tight and stiff. IMPORTANT!

3) Eat within 15-30 min after your leg. Keep it fairly light; you'll be running again. I've used recovery drinks, like Endurox R4, with protein as well as carbs. Eating early will give you more time to digest before you next run. IMPORTANT!

4) Late at night, it's OK to sleep, if you can. That can be hard with the excitement of the event, and the noise in your van. Don't worry too much if you can't. During the day, get out at the exchange spots, when your van stops, to help stay loose.

5) Wake up and start getting ready about an hour before your next leg. Have your typical 10k pre-race light snack - gel, sports drink, etc. Start to move around a loosen up. Get your clothing, gear, lights, etc. ready.

6) Do a very easy 5-10 min walk/jog, finishing 5-10 min before your next leg.

7) After your last leg, beer %26amp; pizza.

8) Joke a lot with your teammates in the wee hours of the morning.

If you want to practice, you can do an easy run, eat as above, then run again a few hours later.|||power-walking, long distance, short-distance, swimming..all helps train.

GOOD LUCK!|||Sound like your running Reach the Beach relay.|||week one. run 3 to 6 miles. week two run 4 to 7 miles. week three run 4 to 8 miles. week four run 6 to 9 miles. work up to running 15 miles. there is no reason for you to train up to 17 miles. ones you train up to mile 13 you'll hit a wall and once you train through it it's all down hill from there.

Relay race?

im planning to have a relay race at a picnic party so what kind of parts or events could we include to make it fun? (were teens)|||- sweatshirt race - you need a large bucket and sweatshirt for each team. Have the team stand behind the bucket. The first player takes the sweatshirt, dips it in the bucket then puts in on and takes it off, then dumps it back in the bucket and runs to the end of the line. The next player does the same. The team that finishes first wins.

- water spoon race - place an empty cup at least 6 feet from the each line and a bucket filled with water close to the line. Each player takes turns filling up their spoon with water then walking it to the empty cup and dumping what water is left into the cup. The first team that reaches a designated spot on the cup wins.

- overhead sponge - Players sit in a straight line. Put a tape line at the same level of several empty buckets (one for each team) and put it in front of the player at the end of each line. Place a bucket of water at the beginning of the line. The first player soaks the sponge in the full bucket and then passes the wet sponge overhead back to the player behind him/her. The players keep passing the sponge back to the last player who then squeezes as much water out into the empty bucket and then passes the sponge back to the front of the line. Each line repeats. the first team to reach the tape line wins.
