How to Run a Relay Race?

My church is doing a relay race today to raise money for charity. In all honestly, I don't know how to run a relay race. Is it just like a normal foot race? I really want to do this for charity, but I don't know what a relay race even is. I would practice if I knew what to do. I really want to win because I have a lot of people putting money on my team.|||A relay is a foot race that consists, usually, of 4 people. Each person runs 25% (1/4) of the race and they do their individual portion by them self. The first runner starts the race and, while running, they carry a tube, called a 'baton', that is similar in size and shape to the cardboard tube you find in the middle of roll of paper towels. Organized track teams usually use a tube that is very light and made of aluminum.

As the first runner approaches the second runner, the 2nd runner starts a light jog. There is a certain distance on the track in which the 2nd runner may start and, by the end of that distance, the first runner must have given the baton to the 2nd runner. This exchange of the baton is called the 'hand-off'.

The second runner then runs with the baton during her/his quarter of the race and hands-off the baton to the third runner and so on.

In real track, if the baton is dropped during the hand-off or the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th runner does not get the baton by the end of that marked off distance, the relay is disqualified.

Many times, such as in church races or recreational competition, variations of relays are made up. There might be 8 people or 5 people and each person may run the same portion of the race or the race organizers might assign different distance for each runner.

You can take a closer look at what happens in a relay at this youtube video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=nt38AsO7eXQ%26amp;f鈥?/a>|||Well, is this a track or field event?

well if it is one of the two i said you shoudl stretch until you fell that your legs are very flexible and they don't hurt when you touch your toes.

if it's afield event you are doing use trainers, if a track event ,use running spikes, if you have time to buy them before the event :)|||鎷垮垎璧颁汉
