Does anyone have any tips on a mile run relay race?

I was wondering if you should try to sprint the whole way, or in the beginning, or at the very end? Also if someone comes up from behind and you're really tired, what should you do?|||A mile is really too far to sprint. To train for it, you should try running more than a mile, so that the actual race will seem relatively short and easy compared to your training.

If you're running hard, you SHOULD be tired by the end of the race. You just need to tell yourself that your team needs you, the race will be over soon, and run through the pain and fatigue. :-)

Good luck!|||Are you talking about a relay where everyone runs a mile? or is it the 4x400 relay where each person runs a 400 and it adds up to a mile? with a 400 its basically a sprint so run as fast as you can the whole way but save some for a really fast finish in the end. If you are running a mile, then try to keep up a fast steady pace the whole time, but DON'T sprint. get a fast start to get ahead of other runners and try to stay in your same position. Halfway through try to increase your speed, you will have gradually slowed down over the distance. Push yourself but save just enough energy for a really good sprint at the end! If someone passes you in the last leg, you need to push yourself as hard as you can- even if you are really tired you still have more energy than you think. If you want it hard enough it will come out!|||I'm running a mile on Thursday for school and was wondering similar things about the race.

I've been told to run with the pack. It really depends on how good you are as a runner, some people could sprint a mile, while others would struggle. Keep a solid, controlled pace, and sprint at the end. If someone catches up try keep with them.

Good Luck|||For half a mile keep a good pace. Then after the half a mile; for about 400 meters (1/4 of a mile) give it all you got. Then just hold it and keep on running till you finish.(its gonna hurt)
