How is a relay raced played?

I teach 2nd grade and I have a group of 19 students. We want to do a relay race with another class that has the same number of students. What are the rules and ideas of this game?|||It's good that each group has 19 students!

(Lets say 100 yards and 20 kids to make it easy) You put ten kids on each side of the 100 yards and start the race on one end. The first student races to the other end and tags off by slapping the hand of the next student in line. Then they race back to the other side until all 20 students have had their turn. The first student that is number 20 to cross the line will win the race. If you have two classes of 19 either one student needs to go 2 times to make it even or one student from each class needs to stand down. Have fun!
