Marie is the star runner on her track team?

Marie is the star runner on her track team. She runs that last 400 meters of a 1600-meter relay race. An analyst studied film of a race she was in and came up with a formula to describe the distance Marie had run at a given time in the race.

M(t) = (0.1t^2) + 3t

Was there an instant when Marie was going exactly 10 meters per second? If so, when was that instant?|||Is this calculus?

If so, the derivative of a distance equation will be a rate of change, or distance per second, or velocity equation.

M'(t) = 0.2t +3, since there is a t component, that means her velocity is dependent on time, so she is accelerating thru out the run. This is actually unlikely in a real race, but we will assume it is true here.

So if she is going 10 m/s, you would have

10 = 0.2t + 3

0.2t = 10 - 3 = 7

t = 7/0.2 = 35

At 35 seconds, she is going 10 m/s|||You did not say what t represents in M(t). Yes it is the first letter in the word "time" but time for what.

The rate at which Maria was running is found by computing dM(t)/dt = 0.2t + 3. This implies that Maria was increasing her speed during the race. She started her leg of the race at t = 0 going 3 m/sec and got faster as time increased.

For this rate to be 10 m/sec, t must be the solution for 0.2t + 3 = 10.

Which is t = 7/0.2 = 35.

How long did it take Maria to complete her leg of the race? If it took at least 35 seconds, then at that point she was running at 10 m/sec

Nude relay races.?

What is your opinion of nude relay races?

Mixed men and women.

I would like to be a spectator, or even a judge.

The events would have to be desided. Like how to carry the wand and pass it. I mean the emagination could run wild here among other things. One day it could even be an olympic sport..

Opinions please.|||Sounds sexy|||I am a nude singer %26amp; I love it.

Did anyone else have to play this game at their freshman orientation where 2 people hug until a balloon pops?

So I just had my freshman orientation from high school a few days back, and we had to play this relay race with boys vs girls where each person from one team has to hug this person with a balloon between them until a balloon pops. I talked with some friends from other schools, and they said that they also played this game? Did anyone else have to play it too?|||I never played it, but it sounds cool|||i have mine today,but the kids from last year said we had to play that, and another game like a guy sits down and puts a balloon on his lap then a girl has to come up and sit till it pops,

yea im not playing that ahah

Relay Races?

What are some fun relay races for kids at the pool?

Obviously a free and medley. And TN tumbler and corkscrew. But what else? Maybe outside of the pool? I was thinking frog jumps, spin 10 times then walk in a straight line, etc.|||I coached 13 and unders for a few years and they loved relay races, so the things you have are great, a few more ideas could include an inner tube:

Have one kid in the tube swim to one end, then the next swimmer will push (or pull) the kid in the tube, then the next swimmer will help push, then the next will help the first two and so on, (it's an add on, promoting team work and strategy) and do this for as many kids as you have and the team who gets everyone to the finish first wins!

Another relay is swimming with the inner tube and exchange it with each swimmer

Add on chain: one swimmer (A) swims to the end of the pool, the next swimmer (B) will pull (A), Then swimmer (C) will pull A and B, then D will Pull A,B, and C and so on and so forth

What are some good names for a female relay team?

My good friend and I are running an adventure race together (run ,canoe, bike) and we need a funny name. We are both adventure athletes and former high school basketball teammates. We are doing the race as a fitness goal but will end up taking it pretty seriously and trying to beat everyone in our age-group.|||The Lesbos|||My suggestion: SHErelay! :D|||Fierce Females|||The flower powers.. The following swimmers swam on the team in the finals:

1:43.31 Phelps

1:44.28 Lochte (yes that's right)

1:46.29 Berens

1:44.68Vanderkaay

I need a 44 minute lesson for 16 year old classmates?

I need to do a small motor skill, large motor skill, and intellectual activity tomorrow, and I need to make a lesson plan. I am planning on teaching sport stacking and doing a relay race for a large motor skill (brief instruction...only doing the 3-3-3-3) stack, nothing beyond the 3.

I need a fine motor skill and an intellectual activity. Any ideas?|||For you i will post some links

the first is for fine motor skills

Love Always|||where the heck do you go to school?

I am on the school track team. How would I go about training to get better at sprinting?

...Like sprinting in the 100 meter race, relay race, or hurdles race.|||Speed depends on how hard you can hit the ground compared to how much you weigh. At top speed its like a pogo stick with short contact times Focus on getting stronger so you don't collapse at the ankle/knee at ground contact. Try altitude drops where you jump off a chair and land on the balls of your feet, knees slightly bent. Do a few reps at first until you get used to the forces of landing. As you get stronger land on one leg or hold weights.

Should I run with a constant speed or a charging speed when running?

I'm running in a 400m race. This race is not a relay race. If the answer is running at a constant speed please tell me more about where should I speed up (which what I was trying to ask for was, more details about the race) I would really won't want to let my team down. Thank You.

Ps: My race will start in 2 days.|||For this you really have to know your body and how long you can endure. If you are a runner I'm sure you know.

Start at charging speed for the first 3-5 seconds, then revert to your normal running speed. Maintain speed for the majority of the race.

You should know how long it takes you to burn out in a sprint, when you reach that distance from the finish line start sprinting.

If you started too early and you start burning out too soon before the finish line you'll have to use adrenaline and determination to ensure that you stay at your top speed, even if you'll be huffing, wheezing, feeling dizzy, whatever may come. There's only that small distance left to the finish line, give it every last drop of your effort and you can rest afterwards.

Other than that make sure your endurance is up enough to maintain a fast average speed during the race.

How can a world championship event not be decided by a goal? PK's is not an acceptable way to end a game?

I just find it amazing that a world championship in any true sport can be decided not on the field of play, but by something as arbitrary as penalty kicks. I don't understand howyou work your a$$ off for 4 years, play countless matches and then can't play until the final game is decided on the field.

You constantly hearthat the players would be too fatigued to go on until a goal is scored, well so what that would bring conditoining and smart substitutions into it, not the luck of a pk. Why not just have a team relay race dribbling the ball from one side of the field to the other to decide the match. Why not have a contest to see which goalie can punt the ball the farthest to decide a champion?

If the greatest athletes in the world, playing for the championship for their sport can't run until a conclusion, then allow additional substitutes for each additional OT, or start taking players off the field for each OT.|||I find shoot outs unfair (and unexciting) as well. This sounds ridiculous but they should take out the goal keepers in extra time. That would really test the defence of each team and make it easier for them to break the tie.|||I wanna say 2 things...

1. you're completely right, the golden goal or sudden death was a way better solution than penalties, particularly in WC !

2. To js3971. PLEASE, don't compare "soccer", which IS actually Football, to "your football", which is actually a modified copy of Rugby ! ! !

NO COMPARISON ! ! !

Sorry for the personal message...|||It can still show hard wok from the players. I mean if top teams aren't scoring they're obviously busting their asses to keep goals from happening.|||actually, that doesn't sound that unreasonable... i mean playing on, (but don't take the players out.) not the idea about a dribbleing race or a goalie punt, that woudl be just as bad. pks are the worst way to end a match (beside the dribbling and the punting thing). They also need to do somethng about the system of refing, because that clearly doesn't work either. You could do like a golden goal, but i think that they do it because it would take way too long to decide it that way, or at least they think so, and it could take way too long.|||Well, it's soccer. If they didn't have penalty kicks, the game could last a century without anyone scoring.

But at the same time, could you imagine American football breaking a tie by allowing one player to go one on one against another player from scrimmage. It would make a mockery of the game.|||Have you ever played futbol? If you havent, you can start looking for a team in your area and then you will understand why the penalties.|||any true sport? if thats how you feel mate then dont watch football, the rules are the rules and no one knows penalty heartbreakers better than us english. two hours of play is long enough, if you want a nice long game then watch cricket

And what movie is this?

What is the significance of race/sex in the medical field?

I watch a lot of medical shows, and I noticed that the race and sex of the person is used when relaying information over.

I was wondering what the reason for this is. Does anyone know?

I figured it might be so that the people waiting at the ER can be on the look out, but I don't know. I'm curious.|||Certain conditions are more common in some races. Some cultures have certain beliefs which could be important. Some conditions are gender-specific. Pregnancy is a possibility for women of reproductive age.|||I don't know about TV medical shows since that is just Hollywood, but race and sex are important to know because of the prevalence of some diseases. Certain diseases affect black people more, certain diseases affect females more, etc. It is important to know a complete history including these two pieces of information to initiate the proper care of the patient.

Where are all the good movies? Did Hollywood run out of good ideas?

I was just watching trailers on Itunes and noticed that the plots to some of the movies absolutely suck. The most interesting movie on the entire page was The Kings Speech. Then there are movies about kids being kidnapped, super heroes, documentaries about things like a relay race. and even a frickin movie about a swim team. What the hell? What happened to creativity?|||Because its 2011 and people got higher and higher expectations...I mean I think they just fed up with it that they are trying to reach some far reaching goals..I mean they have been having brain freeze..or abnormal diet.

What I really mean is that US owes too much, that movie makers need to make a movie that will 100% successful, because if not then waste of money. That is why I think they are making remakes and trying to improve some of them just to make sure that people will be still interested just like they were on the other original movies.|||They aren't all unoriginal.

If you look there are still great movies coming out movie companies. Look at:

Tucker and Dale Vs Evil

Zombieland

You Don't Mess With The Zohan

Death at a Funeral

Mind you I've only listed comedies, because it would take a book to list every genre. The film-making style has changed and so to must the movies we watch. Just because they aren't carbon-copies, or just because many artists draw from older sources for inspiration, doesn't mean the film is going to be bad. The Jurassic Park series - from a book. The Lion King - rip off of a Japanese cartoon. Avatar - Pocahontas anyone? Many times we copy things without even realizing it. So it's discriminatory to say that "all" new movies are played out and bad .|||I think so. People are always trying to remake good movies because they run out of ideas. Here's an idea: remake BAD movies and make them better! Not very original, but still better. Movies really suck today, that's why I watch mostly old movies, and only the really good new ones.|||TWILIGHT HAPPENED.

Not really. I don't know, it just seems to be all about crappy remakes. They're remaking Ferris Beuller too. That should be awful.

Maybe the screenwriters are stuck in the past or stuck in mainstream land.|||I think they stole each others ideas to make it look good but to me thats totally cheating and that they should be thinking more of their own creative ideas. Maybe that's a reason why more movies are sucking down...............

What to do at my college graduation Party?

Swimming Speeds in a Race?

One swimmer in a relay race has a 0.50 s lead and swimming at a constant speed of 4.4 m/s. He has 52 m to swim before reaching the end of the pool. A second swimmer moves in the same direction as the leader. What constant speed must the second swimmer have in order to catch up to the leader at the end of the pool?|||The swimmer does 4.4m/ sec. So first, he has a 1/2 second lead, = 2.2m.

The pool must therefore be (52 + 2.2) = 54.4m long.

He will do the distance in (52/4.4) = 11.818 + 0.5secs. = 12.318 secs.

The next swimmer has just that time to cover the complete 54.4m.

54.4/12.318 = 4.416 m/ sec.

I want to start a cancer organization?

I would like to but Im only in 6th grade. I would like to donate the money to the friends of kids with cancer, because I can't even imagine being my age or even younger and fighting that big of a disease. I mean I would like it to grow but to start just a little one will do. I need some advise on how to get started and what to do for activities. I think a big relay race would be cool but it doesn't matter who your fighting for all the money goes to cancer. Help Please!|||Well I would definitely specify in what type of cancer you'd be supporting. Leukemia, Breast, Brain, Lung, the list sadly goes on. I did a breast cancer fundraiser with my friends. We simply just set up a booth outside of a CVS, had treats for people who donated and we got $135 in about 2 1/2 hours.

Just make posters, hang up flyers, put the word out in a newspaper if you're able, and give people an incentive to donate. Baked goods, ribbons, stickers, etc.|||There are several ways you may want to go about this, one would be a micro-scale setting up a booth completely physical kind of thing, or you could go virtual and set up a website where one could allow requests for donation to be posted so that donors can donate directly, in which case your organization and its portal will be like a bridge that allows donors to reach those in need. That will be easier for you to do as there are plenty of free hosts that are available on the web, you could just register a domain and spread the word.

If you do have the time and the resources to do something bigger, activities such as raffles , races and programmes in association with schools %26amp; other extant charities could work out rather well, too , and the purpose of those could be on-site donations as well as to attract and channel traffic to the web portal, where people may make further contributions.

Either way it is a worthy cause you're working for and I wish you good luck with it.|||Firstly I want to commend you on the public spirit you are showing with this idea.

You say you want to start a cancer organization, but this would involve all sorts of business registrations, tax regulations etc, all of which would require an adult to be responsible.

What would be better, would be to choose an existing organization that works for the people you want to help and hold a fund raising event for them.

You don't mention where you are, but there are organizations in most countries to help children and teenagers with cancer and it would be great if you could run an event to support one of them. In Australia or New Zealand it is CanTeen, in the USA, try Cure-Search.

Why not try and organize this through your school and get everyone involved!

What equation would i use to solve this problem?

One swimmer in a relay race has .47 sec lead and is swimming at a constant speed of 3.28 m/s. The swimmer has 55.1 m to swim before reaching the end of the pool A second swimmer moves in the same direction as the leader. What constant speed must the second swimmer have in order to catch up to the leader at the end of the pool in m/s?|||First, solve for t, which is the number of seconds it will take the lead swimmer to reach the end of the pool:

55.1 = 3.28 * t

t = 16.8 seconds

Then, you will solve for the speed of the second swimmer now that you know both the distance the swimmer must travel and how much time allotted to do it in:

v (for velocity) = 55.1 m / (16.8 - 0.47)

Note that you subtract 0.47 seconds from the time it will take the first swimmer to reach the end of the pool because the second swimmer must do this in less time.

v = 55.1m/16.33s

v = 3.37 m/s|||The second swimmer needs to swim 55.1 m to catch up. But he needs to do this in less time, since he has already lost 0.47 seconds of start....

The first swimmer will take (55.1-0.47*3.28)/3.28 = 16.3 seconds to finish the balance lap.

First swimmer's speed should be 55.1/16.3 = 3.38 m/s ...ANSWER

How do Monarch butterflys know where they came from?

Monarch migrate from a specific location in the Sierra Madres in Mexico to the north is like a relay race! The original butterfly dies along the way, but the offspring it leaves behind continues on to the north where the cycle will start again in the fall.

As fall approaches in the north, 2000 miles from their starting point, non-reproductive monarchs are born. These are the butterflies that will migrate south. They will not reproduce again until the following spring.

Can you use fund raising money to pay expenses?

I belong to a group of women that are interested in running in a long distance relay race to help raise money for childhood obesity prevention. We would like to solicit sponsorships to help pay expenses for our race and then hold various fund raisers to raise money for a non-profit organization. What all do we need to know about any legal or tax implications? Can we open a bank account and/or bank account?|||If you do this with an organization, you can just raise the money and give it to them, and all checks would be made out to them, and then there are no problems.

If you want to create your own organization, then you'll find that the paperwork is a nightmare. You would submit papers and a fee to the IRS, and it would take six months. Then you'd have to register with your state as well, and there are more fees with that.

And any bank is going to ask you for these papers before you can open an account.

The best thing to do would be to find an organization first, and to negotiate with them about how to pay for your expenses out of funds raised.

Any tips for the 800 meter relay?

I've made the 4X800 meter relay team at my high school, but don't have an official time yet for the 800 meter run. (My coach put me in this based off my 5:18 mile time.)

Any tips on the pace and the race overall?|||I do the 4x8 as well! The 800 is faster than a jog but slower than a sprint. When you run, make sure your breathing is steady. And, along with track, i do cross country and we are supposed to sprint the beginning and end so that is what i do in the 800.

I start off at maybe 90-95 percent for the first 100 meters to position myself than slow down and run the last 600 maybe about 65-75 percent. And the final 100 I start sprinting as well, but at full speed.

My 4x8 team did that for our meets and we only lost once. We all did the sprint at the beginning, sprint at the end thing, so I would suggest that. And if you don't want to tire yourself out greatly near the beginning, you might just want to sprint the first 50m and then the last 100m.

Apart from the sprints, the pace is very steady. You need to keep your breathing steady as well (as I mentioned above)

And you need to know how to pass the baton, but your coach will show you how to do that most-likely.|||Well of course the race is gonna start fast when they pull the trigger. Get yourself into a steady but fast pace, if you can run a 5:18 mile then you know what I'm talking about. What i do is get progressively quicker. You want to pick up the pace on the second lap and surge into a sprint to finish. For the hand offs, make sure your arm is out and you're not gonna want to hold your hand out flat, u gotta hold it out like you're gonna grab it, make sure u take it from you're team mate. Remember that, your taking the baton from him. It's really important that you work on hand offs as much as possible.|||well the 800meter is basically sprinting the whole two laps...i say u should push kind of hard at the beginning when u take off and then slow it down some kind of and when u hit the next lap start pushing it and when u hit the last 100meters then just sprint 100% :)

How could a school raise money for Charity with 50 or more Santa suits ?

Apart from selling them! The school is only small but we would like any safe ways that could be suggested. I have already thought of a sponsopred run or relay race, but these seem so boring and people must be fed up with them by now.|||You can have a "Poor Man's Supper" in your cafeteria. This is pinto beans, slaw and cornbread. Charge 5-6 dollars for the meal. Advertise it by posting signs around town, your church and in front of the school.|||How about a fun catwalk/ type thing. Children pay a small deposit of money for a small santa costume and some materials and they could go home and customize it, then you could have a fun fashion shoot type of sponsor!|||Wait, so you already HAVE the 50 Santa suits, or you NEED 50 Santa suits?

If it's that you need them, get crafty. Homemade things often sell like hotcakes to people for easy Christmas gifts. My mom and I are doing this.

You can get cheap unpainted photo frames from craft sections at stores and paint or fabric decorate them.

Go through the scrap fabric bin at your craft section and get fleece material. Make heating pads by sewing rectangles of fleece (these came range in size from 4x6" to a foot or bigger, it's all up to you) that you fill with plain white uncooked rice. Thse go in the micorwave for 2-3 minutes. You can also add various things to them like lavender for relaxation or orange peel for envigoration. Fennel seed also works well for filling, but rice is more readily available and cheaper. These sell very well.

You can get some unpainted ornaments from craft sections and paint them up, leaving room for a name, and do personalized ornaments.

You could do a bake sale, too. This is a good one! You can get cookie mixes and pre-made tear'n'bakes for $3 a dozen, and bake up a whole bunch of them. Do some in singles, doubles, five-packs and dozens. You could wrap them in colored saran wrap and ribbon (the colored Saran Wrap is around $3 but would do them all, and ribbon is around $1).

Contact local grocery store managers and explain what you're raising money for and ask if you cuold put donation jars by their registers. You can also ask if you can sell your baked goods and crafts at a table outside their store. Also, if you have a WalMart, ask them about a matching program. Many WalMarts will match whatever you raise in a set amount of time, like the day you sit at your table outside of their establishment.

A note about this: write down which stores helped you in any way, and be sure to write them thank you notes. They'll LOVE that, and be more likely to help you out if you need assistance again in the future.

f you're allowed to set up a table anywhere, be sure to have material about the program you're going to, maybe make up a poster or visual aid like you have to do in school. Be ready to talk about it a lot. People will really respond to a young, ambitious kid who wants to further their education and follow their ambitions.

Another thing you should do is make up a card to go with all your crafts and baked goods explaining that the proceeds from this purchase will go to (Your cause) and if they have any questions about it, to please call you, (Your Name) at (your number). People will see this and be intrigued, and I'd bet dollars to doughnuts you'll get donations AFTER the sale, as well.

Am I crazy running in a relay while sick?

I am running in the Ragnar Relay Washington D.C. tomorrow and I'm starting to get a cold. What could I do to keep it from getting worse ntill the race and during the race?|||drink lots of water (10 glasses at least), pee a lot!, take some ibuprofen before you go to sleep and about 1 hour before the race and you'll feel a little better.|||Its definitely not helping anything that your sick to help run this relay. You will probably end up sick during the race which could mess it up for your whole team. You should get medicine and hope that you will heal fast.|||Don't do anything just sit and rest and make sure that you go to the race because it is a big chance for you to win. I would like never waste my race just because i am getting a cold it is a flu season. good luck i hope you win =)

Is there an "outside the box" ways for an adult to race in a tricycle race?

How to drink during a race?

I usually go for 1mile-5k races, but I have two buddies who want me to join them in a marathon relay every September... I have to run the first leg (9 miles) and when I ran last year, my main problem was drinking water during the race. For 1mile-5k, who needs water... but for 9 miles, I felt like I needed to start hydrating after the first 3 miles. They hand out those little water-filled paper cups every mile, but I can't get but a few drops of those into my mouth while I'm running... So, my three choices really are:

a.) Like others do, stop for about 5 sec to actually take the cup and be able to drink all the water. Do this about 5 times during the race. Downside: Obviously, 5*5 is 25 sec lost.

b.) Bring a bottle with me. Downside: I've never ran with a 2lb thingy strapped to me. Won't I lose time?

c.) Just run 9 miles straight through.

Last race, I pretty much ran the 9 straight through, and it was OKAY, but I feel like I'm better off hydrating some. What is the best way?|||I think you're on the right track - that your two options are to sort of quickly throw the water into/around your mouth in one running motion, hoping to get most of it in, or to stop for a few seconds to drink the glass. What I do with the water depends on how I am feeling when I get to the water station. If I am feeling pretty good up to that point, I just splash up the water and usually get most of it in my mouth. If I'm feeling more tired or excessively hot, I will grab two cups, take a short stop, and drink the water. It doesn't really take that long, probably more like 3 seconds, which you would make up by finishing stronger.

I would recommend against taking a water bottle with you, simple because that extra weight is too much if you really are trying to go fast.

P.S. - if it's not that hot, and you are really worried about time, you can certainly train to go 9 miles without taking water during the race|||Here's what I do:

a) drink water from a disposable water bottle (like a 500ml, $1 bottle from a convenience store) up until 5 minutes before the race. then, throw this bottle away (to a friend; in garbage)

b) carry a second bottle the same. drink it over 2-3 stops between miles 3-7. then, throw it away and finish with what's in your body. you don't need to stop for water in the last 10-15 minutes. Practice running with a water bottle in your hand ... I find it quite easy now, but weird when I started.

c) drink a lot at the finish. have a litre or two waiting for you.

whether i drink from a dixie cup or a water bottle, I always walk. walking can be more than 50% of the speed of running. That said, I don't walk for 5 seconds ... maybe 15. but if you're walking you can grab two dixie cups and slosh 'em back in 15-20 seconds ... and probably only lose 10 seconds. Marathon times for world class runners can vary by 5-20 minutes, depending on how their race goes, so if you're concerned about 25 seconds, it sounds like you're obviously more paranoid than those who win Olympic gold.

Furthermore, walking for 15-20 seconds can flush lactic acid out of your legs, giving you a bit more endurance. I always find it easy to catch up to a pack when I've been walking.|||It depends on the temperature and humidity as to whether you need to drink during a 9 mile run.

If you need some water just do what is necessary, stop, walk until you gulp it down, or whatever.

Be careful you do not drink too much, if it is sloshing around inside it can cause problems.

I think about 4 ounces is all I can drink without causing some distress.|||If you don't want to stop or carry a small bottle with you on a belt try this. Slow down a bit when approaching the aid station, grab the cup, squeeze it so you have a V towards the mouth side of the cup. The V will allow you to more easily poor the liquid into your mounth. Remember to swallow and not breath when you drink :)|||I was watching the Indy500 mini on TV this may. They said that it is a good idea to get a drink at most of the stations. They suggestion that the time spent walking will actually help you run faster later in the race. I would go ahead and walk a little bit each 3 mile or so to catch up while enjoying a beverage.

800m relay - how should I pace myself?

On Wednesday I'm running in a relay race. It's the freshman division 4x800m relay race. I am the anchor, and the girl who is going before me is kind of slow. I'm gonna have a lot to catch up, and I don't want to finish last.

How should I pace my race?

I have a good sprint, but I get tired easily. Tips?|||Preparation outside practice:

You need to combine strength training with cardio to see optimum results in your performance. Do pushups, crunches, lifts, etc.; you can find variations of such strength exercises online. Variety is beneficial; it will truly challenge your body and take it to limits it has never reached.

800m on race day:

Everyone paces oneself differently. If you're allowed to cut in right after the gun goes off, make sure you get a good start; don't let anyone elbow you in an attempt to push you back. If anything, elbow others:) Start out at a fast jog, and take it up a notch after the 200 mark. After your first 400, just hang in there; try not to slow down. When you come to your last straightaway, give it all you've got left. There's no one way to run for everybody; each person has his/her strengths and weaknesses. Try not to let yourself get psyched out. One saying I like to run through my head is "Pain is weakness leaving the body". It's a saying by the Marines, and it's great to think about when you're feeling mentally and/or physically exhausted during a race.

I ran the 3rd leg of the 4 x 8 the other day. I was terrified because I am primarily a sprinter/hurdler, and I was put in the relay as there was no one else available who could run my time or better. I was to hand off to Shelby Greany, who's nationally ranked in pretty much every distance event and somewhat of a celebrity in the tri-state area. Her PB is something like 2:14, which is an incredible time for a junior girl. I ran my first lap in 69, which I think was too fast for the first lap. I did run a PB, though, of 2:32.7, so I was happy. Just keep on pushing through the race; don't let your mentality go down and you'll do great!

Good Luck!|||In the first lap, (first 2 if indoor) go at a steady pace, and make sure you don't use up all of your energy. In the beginning of the second lap (third lap if indoor) start to speed up but still, don't waste to much of your energy. In the last part of the second lap (fourth lap if indoor) sprint out all of the way and put forward all of your energy. Hope I helped- I do track and this is the technique I use when I run.|||This is one of the races i run. Make sure when you come around the curve you dig deep in the track and push hard off of it. Hug into the curve, too. Try bringing in your right arm (as you're running), so that youre not running in a straight line.

Since youre anchor, you should be able to sprint the whole thing. Make sure you use good running form. On the straight a-way, pump your arms, ear to pocket.

Hope this helped. . . :)|||don't completely sprint it, try long strides and cover as much ground as you can without getting more winded than you can handle. when it gets to the end, give it all you have because once you get to the finish line you don't have any more time to run, and that could be good or bad. Good Luck! (:|||try running at a slightly fast, maybe 5.30 mile, steady pace.

What should I do on my elliptical to improve my race speed?

I have an elliptical machine and I already do all my track workouts but I want to improve my speed in my races for track. I'm a sprinter right now, i run the 55m and the 200m relay my time's aren't bad but I want to improve them. How can i do that with my elliptical like what should I do? I already did the preprogrammed workouts and they're not bad but I don't feel like it's helping my speed. thanks for the help!|||An elliptical won't help your speed. It helps with aerobic baseline endurance, cardio and fat burning for the most part.

Go out and do interval and tempo runs instead in the 3-4 mile range to build anaerobic and muscular endurance. Use that as a warmup. Then go on a track and practice 10x 50M....the first 25M go all out, start shutting down and start coasting the last 25M.

Use the elliptical on RECOVERY days after hard workouts.

100 times 1600 equals 160000 cm.

How would i go about winning a race for 4x8 3200 meters relay and 800 meters open?

I'm a 800 runner and my time for 800m is 2:26 and relay time 2:31. The record for my schools freshmen year is 2:10 and i wanna beat so bad!

My coach has our schedule, mid: monday abs- 4 mile run, easy: tuesday 3 miles, mid: wed. lift weights 3-5 mile run depends, hard: thurs pickups drill, easy: recover 3 miles. And theres usually a meet every week.|||You need to do more race pace intervals especially 200's, 100's and 400's. Try to rotate the intervals and use 800 meter pace for the 200's doing 200 meters X 10 at 800 meter race pace; 400 meters X 8 at mile race pace or 100 meters X 16 at 90% effort with 100 meter walks. Your other intervals use 120 heart beats per minute as your rest period. Do these type of intervals twice a week since you usually have a race once a week. Good luck!

Sorry that this was so long. Have a nice birthday! byebye! %26lt;3 =D or the potato sack one...you have a big sack and (1 person goes in it) they are inside the big bag and hop. ok sorry this was long and maybe hard to understand. byebye! %26lt;3 =D|||Well, a relay, with everyone.

Then do races like skipping, sprint, sack racing, space hopper etc.

Then do logic games, like knots:

The group stands in a circle, and can't grab the hand of someone next to them. Then the group, without letting go of hands, has to untie itself.

After some games you could have a cool picnic, with party food etc., and have your birthday cake there too.

Hope ALL this helps x

Olympic swimming relay races?

In Olympic swimming relay races, i.e. 4x100m and 4x200m, how far does each member of the team actually swim?|||There are 3 relays in the Olympic games;

- 4x100m freestyle relay

- 4x200m freestyle relay

- 4x100m medley relay

On the 4x100m freestyle relay, there are 4 swimmers that each swim 100m (4 lengths in a 25m pool, 2 lengths in a 50m pool) each. They usually swim front crawl in this race, but freestyle means they can swim anything.

On the 4x200m freestyle relay, there are 4 swimmers that each swim 200m (8 lengths in a 25m pool, 4 lengths in a 50m pool) each. They also usually swim front crawl in this race, but freestyle means they can swim anything.

On the 4x100m medley relay, there are 4 swimmer that each swim 100m (4 lengths in a 25m pool, 2 lengths in a 50m pool) each. The 1st swimmer swims 100m backstroke, the 2nd swimmer swims 100m breaststroke, the 3rd swimmer swims 100m butterfly and the final swimmer swims 100m front crawl.|||That's what the x or "by" tells you.

In a 4x100m relay, 4 people each swim 100m. In a 4x200m relay, 4 people each swim 200m.

So the 4 is how many legs of the relay (basically, how many people participate) and the distance is the distance of each leg (how much they each swim).

A lot of swimmers refer to the entire relay as a total, so a 4x100 freestyle relay would just be called a 400 free relay, a 4x200 relay would be an 800, etc.

Clairvoyants/Psychics: Dreams About Pregnancy & Relay Races?

I had this very confusing dream last night. In the beginning of it, I was in my father's house, helping my mother and younger brother move some furniture and boxes around. {Maybe my father was moving, or my brother was moving out of the house? I don't know. I just specifically remember furniture and us moving boxes.} At one point I was carrying this cream and red colored sheet set with a huge red comforter, and set it down on the sofa in the living room. Then I went to sit down and talk to my mother in the kitchen. Suddenly my brother got up, went into the living room, and picked up the comforter and sheets and started saying, "Ooh, I'm pregnant. I can't move this. I'm not supposed to lift anything." Just clearly mocking me in every way he could. In the dream, I was very much pregnant, but not very far along. I think maybe 2 months, at the most? I asked my brother why he was mocking me, and he said that he wasn't, and asked, "Why didn't you just make the bed?" I said, "I'm tired." I walked back into the kitchen where my mother was, sat down in a chair, and dozed off immediately. I found this to be very odd because: 1) my father and brother live in another state -- Delaware, and I hardly ever get to see or talk to them, 2) in the dream I knew I was pregnant {I'm NOT in real life}, and my brother -- who will be 18 soon -- was acting very childish and rude about the whole thing, and 3) I feel deep down the colors in the dream -- red and cream -- are very symbolic, but I don't know why or in what way.

The second part of the dream had me in an outside area, in a line full of people. I was about the second or third person from the front. We were all supposed to take place in this relay race that also was an obstacle course. At one point in the obstacle course/relay race, we had to jump in this huge tire swing and see how long we could swing without falling, and also how high in the swing we could get in the air. Just before it came to be my turn, I leaned down to tie my shoe. When I turned my head to look behind me while I was tying my shoe, the grassy area turned into a preschool/kindergarten classroom with desks, toys, and other things like that. I walked over to a desk that was sitting in the corner, and the person sitting there got up, said, "You can sit here," smiled at me, and left. Who the person was, I have no idea, but I sat down anyway. I started looking around the classroom and suddenly becamse very confused, and that's where the dream ended.

Your thoughts?

MATURE COMMENTERS ONLY, PLEASE!!!|||Well.

Ok.

So.

Dreaming about pregnancy in a dream means you're figuratively giving birth to new ideas and new beginnings. Some aspect of your personal life is developing. To dream about moving also symbolizes that you want change. However, your brother's negative reaction might mean that someone in your family disapproves of your new changes and beginnings.

Red is the color of energy and passion. This could suggest you're passionate in whatever is new and developing, but it can also mean rash decisions. The color ivory (cream in your case) can symbolize slightly tainted purity and superiority.

To dream that you're in a race symbolizes that others are envious or jealous of your achievements. It can also be a symbol for you to slow down, which is what I think fits the context considering you stopped to tie your shoe. Dreaming about school means you have some sort of childhood inadequacy or unfinished business to resolve around that time period in your life.

Hope that helped!|||Are you a Scorpio?

Edit: You got sexy eyes, no wonder your a Scorpio.|||the only thing i can be assure about in ur dream that being pregnant means in real life ur carrying so much sadness and pain and if u dreamed that u got birth it means ur sadness and pain went away|||Hi! really good with details in the dream.

most of the symbols are found on Dream moods.

But working on the dream is very individual... See what it does for you...

what I understand is this:

Your life is profoundly changing...

Pregnancy can be literal or not... but the energy is the same. You're maturing into a new direction in your life... Your dream tells you that you're really going to actively participate in it...

There will be spots on your path where you're going to need to be careful:

= when you encounter instances where you're being dominated or manipulated, or pushed around. Don't let yourself feel depleted by the encounter... you'll lose focus.

Cream/beige and Red is about Life energy and Basics.

Taking care of basics, making sure your energy is focused. (it is really important like you said)

A really good friend of mine once told me he believes we live the same life over and over again...thats why when we have Deju Vu we feel like he have already been there once before. If your religious of course this deju vu would affect you.

Im not saying your dream of you standing in line and wating to take a seat was a differnt life but maybe it was a distant memory you actually had when you were little but dont remember...

Very cool dream yet kinda creepy( you knew you were pregnant)

Keep dreaming on

Your thoughts?

MATURE COMMENTERS ONLY, PLEASE!!!|||Both dreams are the same. You are gone a have new opportunities, a change on your life. Something that even you don;t know up to now. Changes that includes move from your actual house or job or what you are doing now. New life experiences for good. Be happy you are blessed now.|||I understand you. I am took a class on this. For some reason, you felt the need to be in a relay race and you must've thought about being overweight, or prengant.|||Go take a pregnancy test. The dream might be your subconscious telling you that you're pregnant. You're right-- red and cream ARE symbolic... of pregnancy (and the like). Eighteen-year-old boys can be very immature sometimes, I don't think that it means anything. I think that the second part of the dream is probably just the subconscious putting up random memories or ideas to keep your brain occupied.

Maybe you're anxious that your brother's going to college soon? You said he's almost 18...|||Moving the furniture with your family out of the house could represent moving. This could indicate in real life how your father and brother are living somewhere else. Your brother being rude and childish to you may be how you remember him when he was younger and will be fond of that image of him (now that's he turning into a young adult). You being pregnant could mean something new in your life is happening or you might want to start a family in real life.

The colors red and cream symbolize however you see think those two colors mean. Red is a really strong color, and cream is smooth and comfortable. The sheet represents covering yourself with these two meanings.

The relay race/obstacle course might symbolize getting ready to tackle on actual obstacles and accomplish a certain goal in mind.

The race turning into a kindergarten room can associate with your pregnancy in the dream and thinking ahead of it, kinda like jumping a couple of years.

You need to be on your toes at the last 200 and if not used to them, it might hamper for a time or two if they aren't "broken" in.|||heck yes!! I do and it really helps. Make sure they fit well. My husband is running in the MyoMed Ragnar Relay in Utah. It is a 2 day race. I was wondering what to make him for dinner the night before and even for breakfast the morning of the race, I want him to have tons of energy!! Thanks for your help!|||chicken pasta is great. I ate it before all of my races. I would just make pasta and than grill or bake some chicken, cut it up and mixed it in with the pasta. For a sauce I would just take a little butter and garlic, melt it and put it on top. Italian bread and a nice salad is a great side for the pasta.

For breakfast a huge favorite of mine and with my athletes is a toasted bagel with peanut butter and a banana. It may seem to be a small breakfast for some but keep in mind you don't want to eat all to much the day of a race, if you do you could get stomach aches or cramping. if he doesn't like bananas another good choice is an orange.

Good snacks for a runner would again be bananas (potassium helps prevent cramps) or oranges(they taste good and they help hydrate because they are nice and juicy) honey and raisins provide natural energy fast. Pretzels are also a good choice. Tell him good luck and have fun|||Dinner: Pasta with some easy-digest veggies (look up online for examples)

Breakfast: NO MILK, maybe some orange juice eggs and ham! That always gives me energy. AND in between the races or when he has a break, try to find some good energy bars. These help a lot.|||Definitely go with Chicken pasta for dinner. As far as breakfast, just eat whatever he normally do. Add a power bar if his normal breakfast is light and do not include much carb.

Did your hearts race and go crazy when the USA men swimmers won that really close relay a couple days ago!?

Me being an athlete i know how it feels and i got SOOOO excited for them my heart was racing and i felt like screaming for joy!|||Hell yeah! What made it even better is that Alain Bernard said that the French were going to "smash" the Americans in that event, and it was Alain Bernard who was overtaken by Lezak at the end.

Strike that.|||YES! Im a competitive swimmer myself and i screamed when they won! I was so happy for them!! I love Micheal Phelps too. Did you see his muscles when he was shouting for joy?? A-MAZING!|||HELL YEAH!!! THAT WAS AWESOME!!!|||Yah, I know! It was such an epic race... The team was so awesome! I'm so glad I watched it. WOOOOHOOOO!|||ya epic race :P|||I agree!|||I did, I nearly died of happiness at the end|||i dont really care, but swimming is fun

Why does relay racing depend as much on teamwork as on speed of individual runners?

Because the hand-off of the baton is just as important as the individual performance of the athletes. If one athlete fails to give a hand-off properly, it will usually cost the entire team the race. If any member of the team doesn't take their training seriously, it could cost the entire team the race. It's very much a team sport.

What should i eat and drink just before a 1500m race that i have tomorrow??? And when should i eat/drink them?

tomorrow at 12:30 i am doing the 1500m race javelin and later relay i am not too bothered about the others just the 1500m as i am racing with year 9 and i am in year 8.

What i would like to know is what should i eat and drink before the race.

And when should i eat drink it?

I have been training for 3 months and i can get it in 6:16 but i am hoping for under 6:00mins.

Any other tips would be great.

And i would also like to know if there is anything i should eat for dinner or breakfast .

Do the energy drinks like Powerade work???

Thank you so much for your response i am VERY greatful!!!!|||okay, if you want to do your best, be ready, because you will need to be a little hungry. get up in the morning and eat lots of carbs. you should eat, but DONT get full. try oatmeal (grits),

just find something with more than 30 carb thingys in it. main idea: dont get full, but breakfast should be your only meal. just eat healthy, dont wake up and pop open a coke and a bag of chips. a bananna is also a good idea.

before the race, DO NOT drink powerade or gatorade. only water. believe me, i know. i've ran track for three years now, and i know what that stuff can do to you. it will possibly give you cramps, and it's junk. it is for REfueling, not fueling. a few hours before the race, make sure to keep hydrated. drink water, and get rid of it. do this until you know you are hydrated.

5 minutes before the race, for instant release energy, if you have rice krispies or krispie treats, those are a must. if not, find some fairly light and healthy cereal to eat. pack a ziplock bag for it. not a heavy, bulky cereal.

the best of luck.|||dont eat a lot, and dont eat anything unusual. just something high in carbs at least 2 hours before, like oatmeal or a granola bar.

drink lots of water, or powerade, up to 30 minutes before.

powerade wont make you run any faster, but it does replace the salts your body loses when you sweat, making you recover easier.

dinner the night before, eat a high carb meal like pasta. but dont over do it, you dont need to stuff yourself.

when you get there, just concentrate on your race. zone out. stretch, tie your shoes, get ready the same way every time, it helps you avoid thinking about the other people and just focus on your race.

when you're done, cheer like crazy for your teammates!|||Running 1500 meters is more of a sprint event, so there are not a lot of foods that will make you faster. You will not be on the track long enough to rely on any food or drink you eat 1 鈥?2 hours before your event.

While 1500meters is a good distance it relies mainly on your ability to run anaerobically this means for the most part your muscle run with out oxygen building lactic acid up quickly while you burn glycogen stored in your muscles for fuel. While you need some endurance work, you should be working on strength and interval training to provide you with what you need to run faster.

So eat and drink normally and you will be fine. If you usually run on an empty stomach, then run that way, if you have to eat a 陆 peanutbutter sandwich and a glass of water 1 鈥?2 hours before the race and you will be sufficient to get you there.

Harry

http://thediabeticrunner.blogspot.com|||As far as right befor the race, really nothing. It will make you sick to your stomach.

Save the sport drinks for afterward to re-fuel.

Make sure you have a healthy dinner; no soda or fatty fried foods. Don't overstuff yourself.

Make breakfast lighter; no waffles with lots of syrup, etc. Have perhaps oatmeal with a banana, or any fruit really.

Make sure you have a lot of water the night before so that you're hydrated.

Cotinue drinking water in the morning but don't overdo it because (1) it will upset your stomach and (2) you'll feel like you need to pee while you're running :-)

Just be positive! Theres a reason you're running this race and it's because you're good! Forget the fact that you're a year younger, you've got this race made as long as you stay with the pack, don't be overwhelmed, relax your arms and race hard! Best of luck!

How to train for a 10km run and a 27km road bike race?

I am entering a two man team in the Red Cross Relay. My part in the race is a 27km road bike and a 10km run (in that order). I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to train for this or if anyone has any tips. I am in pretty good shape as I play on a University Soccer team and work out every day. I have less than 7 weeks before the race.|||The best way is training with double workouts or running or biking on opposite days. Your training for an endurance event so on hard days do long intervals such as 2 miles X 3 at 10K pace for running or 10KM X 4 for your biking with short rest periods of 2 minutes. Also run in 10K races or bike rides to get you ready. Your other training days can be easy jogging and riding. Good luck!

But in 2007 he was very much only second best to the likes of Powell and Gay.

Does anyone know some background information on relay races??

Im doing a paper on How to run a relay race and to start it off i need some background information about it i have its used in the olypics and its also knows as a road race also i found it originated in Japan but i need some more

Any help here??|||I can't help you with the origin but how to run the race is easy. A team of 4 athletes work together to transport a baton around a specified distance. There are a number of relay races that cover a variety of distances. In some events all 4 athletes run the same distance. In others, called medley relays, each athlete will run a different distance. There are sprint medley and distance medley races.

The most important aspect of the relay is the hand off. The goal is to have the baton travel the entire distance at max speed. For example, athlete number 1 must pass the baton to athlete number 2 while they are both running at their max speed. This takes tremendous timing and practice. The hand off must occur within a set zone on the track and if it does not, disqualification will take place.

The relay is an exciting event to compete in and watch. The most popular events are the 4X100 and 4X400 meter relays. Hope this helps!

Does anyone know of any sites that relay horse racing tips?

I get loads of emails and letters through the door about horse racing tipsters I want to know how good they are before I part with my well earned cash,and bet on these tips, does anyone police these horse racing tipsters ?|||Horse racing tips are opinions offered by handicappers. Professional handicappers point out the horses they think will most likely do well in a race, an some are very good, but they can't predict a winner for every race.

You should look at the tipster's scorecard - how often their winners come in and their ROI (Return on investment).

What sorts of games do Japanese school students play during recess besides relay races?

Dodgeball.... and they're pretty good at it too!|||?|||Google.com|||Japanese elementary schools have playgrounds and the children, like children in other countries, enjoy their playground sessions. The amount of time devoted to recess differs from school to school, but at many schools there are two breaks lasting about 20 minutes each, during which many schoolchildren go out and play in the schoolyard.

Kids play on jungle gyms and swings or form teams to play soccer and dodgeball. Also popular are skipping rope and such games as tag.

On rainy days and at other times when one can't go outside, kids spend the time chatting with their friends or reading and drawing in the classroom or library.

What sorts of games do Japanese school students play during recess besides relay races?

Is relieving a starting pitcher like being in a relay race, because you have to warm up in the bull pen,?

before getting handed the ball . Are the number of pitches thrown in the bull pen counted as a statistic in determining the usage of that reliever in a season of baseball ?|||No, I don't think I'd make that analogy. None of the pitches thrown prior to the batter stepping into the box and the umpire signaling "play" are official. The only pitches that you care about statistically are those thrown during an official plate appearance by a batter of the opposing team.|||It sounds like you have never watched a baseball game on TV. Try it... you might learn something.|||I'm going to say no. A relay race (I'm assuming you are talking about running) is a set of 4 runners who's order or personnel can't be changed once the race has started. Each runner must run a certain distance. A relief pitcher may face only one batter but could face several. The manager can pitch in anyone on his roster who hasn't played or is in the game already. Warm up pitches are not counted in stats. The coaching staff may keep track of them though.|||no, I also have an anology....being in the bullpen is like heating up your car in the winter, you dont use it until its heated up or it will break down...in this case you give your pitcher time to throw some pitches before he steps on the mound...you wouldnt want him to get injured/unprepared during a game.....|||No, it is not like that at all.

For starters, there is no formula for determining when you should turn over the ball to the next pitcher. The starting pitcher can pitch an entire game, pitch only seven innings, or pitch less. I have seen starters get pulled in the first inning without recording an out, resulting in an Innings Pitched (IP) stat of 0 (IP increases by 1/3 per out recorded).

The number of pitches in warmup is not an official stat and can differ by the pitcher. Sometimes another starting pitcher is brought into the game in relief. These pitchers usually requre more time to prepare than pitchers who come in for one or two innings. The manager usually signals the bull pen when relief pitchers are required. Similarly, a signal is sent back when the pitcher is ready.

Once the pitcher takes the mound (either at the beginning of an inning or introduction into the game) then there is a fixed amount of warmup pitches that he can take from the mound before the inning starts or resumes. Off hand, I am not sure of the number but I think it is 8. The only time this is not so is if a pitcher is being relieved either due to injury or ejection by umpire.

So the relay analogy does not really work too well here. since there are no fixed intervals when the pitchers need to be relieved.|||Well, I see that you guys have it covered, so this "old woman" will move on to another question.

I need an Excel formula to calculate total splits for a relay race.?

Does anyone know a way in Excel to calculate how a relays best times will calculate out? I'm looking to take mm:ss.00 for each person and total it to a total time. For example: 24.55 + 28.25 + 27.62 + 26.93= 1:47.35. Currently I have the cells set at custom for mm:ss.00 as text will not calculate and numbers mess things up. Time does not work either.|||---EDIT---

Are you asking that you want to sum times like 27.62 and 1:08.55?

A1 = 24.55

A2 = 1:08.55

A3 = 27.62

A4 = 1:02.12

Put this in B1 and copy it down column B to B4

=IF(A1%26gt;1, A1/86400, A1)

...and format column B as [m].ss.00

Then to sum them all...

=SUM(B1:B4)

Alternatively, If you enter in your seconds-only times like this 0:24.55, you could just sum all the cells.

Or if you enter in your times that are over a minute like this

68.55 and use the formula below to sum the cells.

---Original answer---

A1 = 24.55

A2 = 28.25

A3 = 27.62

A4 = 26.93

=SUM(A1:A4)/24/60/60

or

=SUM(A1:A4)/86400

Format the cell with the SUM formula as a custom format...

[m]:ss.00

Dividing by 86400 converts the Total seconds into serial time (a decimal number that represents the portion of one day or 86,400 seconds). Then a custom "time" cell format can display the serial time in the format you define e.g. [m]:ss.00

You were close with using the TIME function but it rounds decimal seconds to an integer so it would drop the .35 seconds in your total.

Has nyone been replaced for the 4x100 relay race?

It sounds like you need to make a decision. Show your coach that you are dedicated.|||Just practice as hard as you can the next few days. Show your coach that you want the position more than the other person.|||Well obviously if your not gonna be there someone has to replace you so the team can compete in the event! LOL. You'll be replaced but I don't know about permanently. Relax.

Am I fit enough for this relay race?

Hi, i'm looking for general advice, encouragement and even if I don't like it, constructive criticism. Here are some details:

- 20 year old female

- currently running 45min daily at 4.5mph (so 13:20min/mile)

- two months to prepare for a 5 mile run

- the cut-off time is 14min/mile

- endurance good

- 5'0" (meaning my stride is much shorter than the average runner - Will this be a problem?)

I'm just nervous b/c it's my first big run since being a couch potato! I don't care about winning but i am afraid of being slower than everyone, coming in last and looking like a fool. Thanks everyone! I appreciate all your help!|||I think you're in good shape considering you've got 2 months left to prepare. If I were you I'd try to go a little bit longer (an even 4 miles to start with, then keep easing it out to your desired distance, which at minimum 5 miles but 6 would be best) and just gradually continue to increase your speed.

Try maybe twice a week to go farther, and twice a week to go faster at the current distance (maybe go 4.7mph), and the other 2 days keep doing exactly as you are. You should always take at least 1 (if not 2) days off for full recovery. Mix up the workouts so you don't have too many hard days in a row.

Don't worry about your height, there are a lot of very good runners who are shorter than average. You should be sure to focus on your stretching and take it seriously though, being flexible makes it easier to reach and maintain a natural stride length comfortably.

You've got lots of time. Just stay focused, keep working on improving a small amount every week, and let time do its thing. 2 months is 7 solid weeks for training and an easy week to recover and rest up.

Good luck!|||Hey Maggie,

You should do fine, a lot better than fine. Focus on the endurance more, but seeing as you're running 45min daily you really shouldn't have a problem. I recommend, that once a week or every two weeks you do a test run. See if you can run 5 miles at all, and at what speed. But you really shouldn't have a problem, and don't forget about that adrenaline rush (it just may give you that boost to stay ahead or at least even with everyone else). Focus on your breathing too, it may add a few minutes to your endurance level (in through nose, out through mouth/ pace it).|||You shouldn't worry about coming in last. If you're doing a charity run, many will be recreational runners who are keen on improving their fitness, having a good time, etc. however, if you're doing a competitive race there are always many people who are newcomers to the sport and it may be their first big run too.

Your endurance seems to be excellent and on track. By running 45 minutes daily, your body should be accustomed to sustaining itself over long periods of time and over long distances, so I don't think the distance will worry you much. Two months to prepare is a relatively long time, so I would suggest that you start doing time trials once a week, perhaps on a Saturday or the weekday the race will be held on. This conditions your body to run at that particular time and at race pace. Try timing yourself over the 5 miles and focus on pacing, such as not tiring yourself out too quickly in the first half of the race, etc. Don't do an all out effort as this should be reserved for the race only.

If your main goal is to complete your first race, ensure you can run the full distance of the race. If your main goal is to improve and get a decent, reasonable time, you can try doing speed drills and interval training, which is designed to improve speed and strength. You seem to be progressing well, so if you add in a few speed drills, you might even squeeze out in the top half of the pack on your race.

As with your stride length being shorter than average runners, you needn't worry about that. If you incorporate speed work, as you run faster, your stride rate and stride length increases. Surprisingly, your stride length increases more than your stride frequency.

Best of luck! Don't worry about coming in last :)

Hope this helps!

Why are Kenyans traditionally so talented at sprint and relay races?

I was wondering how Kenyans are practically the elites when it comes to 100-meter dashes and marathons and any sport that involves running.|||Correction: Kenyans are very poor at short distances. That field is left to Americans and Jamaicans. Kenyans excel in Long Distance Competitions. Those Kenyan runners you see winning work very hard at what they do. They train hard - covering long distances every day. A good number of them have a joined the army, prison service and so on in order to practice. Track and field relay racing help?

I have a two relay races coming up: the 4x200 and the 4x400. I need some tips for baton exchanges as well as important rules for relay races.|||to break inside until they tell you usually they have cones I'm guessing that this is in a 200m indoor track. Or else you will get DQed. It depends what kind of baton passing your doing. Blind or not. Cause blind is when your teammate comes close to you and says go and you start running and then when he says stick you grab it and sprint. Or you just look at your teamate coming and stick our your hand like your holding a cup and grab the baton and go. this is what i did in may 4x200.|||haha i have a meet comming up soon too but im in 4x800 and the mile in DMR.

anyways... try making your hand into an L shape. be sure to get a start.. dont just got from standing to sprinting. dont take off too early or too late. dont take the baton anywhere above your shoulder or below your waist. if you drop the baton, dont stop until they tell you you're disqualified. as long as it fell behind you, you arent disqualified. so just walking off ends the race and you get no points for it.

other than that, be sure to practice a few handoffs before your race and just run your best. goodluck =]|||When I run the 4x200 or the 4x100 when we pass the baton, the person passing yells go and you start running and then they say reach and you put your hand back and grab the baton. When I run the 4x400 we just watch our teammate because it is a slow handoff.

Why does the fastest person go last in swimming relay races?

Why is it that generally the fastest person goes last?

Is there supposed to be a strategic reason for this?|||Since the overall time is the sum of each leg, it really doesn't matter who goes where; however, there are a few things to consider...

1) You'll want the best person off the blocks from the tone/gun to go first.

2) The fastest swimmer usually is your best/most experience swimmer. You don't want the last leg to negatively impacted by being behind (a less experience person might not do as well).

3) The water is usually very choppy on the last leg. Will this impact any of your swimmers?

4) Usually the fastest swimmer finishes well. The pace themselves until they need to kick it in for the final push (goes back to experience).|||well thats not true the FASTEST goes last because if a team is like one person behind they get the SECRET weapon to go last, catch up, and WIN

Pirate-Relay Race Ideas?

I am throwing a birthday party for my (soon to be 9) year old and its a pirate themed. I was thinking of them trying to hang onto something that was hard to hold (kinda like an egg on a spoon) but am not able to thinking of anything pirate-y. Any ideas?|||You could have little "treasure chests" and divide into teams. Each child must take a spoon full of "treasure" (you can get cheap plastic coins and jewelry) and put it in his corresponding treasure chest. First one to fill it up wins.

You could have a three legged race.

You could have them shoot dart guns at targets with one eye covered by an eye patch.

You could pin the peg leg on the pirate, or pin the eye patch on the pirate (and have a blown up picture of the party child).

You could have a rope swing.

You could have an obstacle course with the rope swing as part of it (swinging across the aligator swamp or some such).

I have a 4 x 100m relay race next four days later.How can I increase my speed fast without any equipments?

It's only 100m so stamina should'nt matter,|||If Anabolic Steroids are not an option, then I would say to workout out moderately, and make sure that you don't overdo it. If you're rested, you'll perform at your best. I will get thumbs down for this, I know it, but Anabolic Steroids would make you faster than a racehorse. Just go to your doctor, pretend like you're sick, and maybe he'll prescrible prednisone, or something like that.......

Relay race???

wat are some fun ideas to do for a relay race for teens?|||Exchange of stick.

Did anybody watch the men's 4x100m relay race?

usain bolt made histoy yesterday by beating carl lewis record of 43.10. the old record was 43.40. |||Yes, of course!!!|||Yes I saw it! Bolt was very fast on the relay but he wasn't the only one. The rest of the Jamaican team preformed on a super-human level as well in that race. It was like a big yellow-and green streak going around that track! Very impressive.

One thing that I would say almost compares to it is the way the US swimmer at the end of the 4x100 free relay (Jason Lezak) pulled off an amazing final leg to help Phelps in his march to a record 8 golds.

It's great when the presence of one man is able to elevate the performance of everyone on the team. That is what is so great about team sports. Greater than the sum of it's parts!|||Yes i saw it. Bolt is easily the most dominating athlete of these olympics. Even better than Michael phelps i's say. I mean he won the 100m by like 10m, and he was celebrating while he ran them too!!|||yes i sure did. i cant wait for some one to break his record in 2012
