Passing on inside of track during relay race?

what are the rules for passing on the inside lane during a high school track relay race|||passing on the inside lane?

wouldn't you stay in the same lane?

but if you don't, i wouldn't pass on the outside lane; then again, i wouldn't quite know, i'm distance.

i usually pass to the right of them; otherwise, i might be disqualified for not being on the track.

meaning when i pass them, they'd have to look right to see me.|||As long as you are not outside of the lane marker for 3 steps, you should be fine. However, you should not try to pass on the inside for a relay race because if you cut another runner off, your team will be disqualified. The only reason why you should pass on the inside is if the other runner is straddling lane two and is giving you a clear path to the inside.

Just be smart about it and it is better to be safe than sorry|||For the most part, the "three step rule" is a myth. In most competitions, you can be disqualified if at any point your foot hits the inside or outside lines of your lane. Most officials will not disqualify athletes for this reason unless they are obviously trying to cheat or it is a high-level competition, though (for example, two athletes were disqualified in the 200 men's final in Beijing for just hitting the line a couple of times).
