How do u run a relay race? 100m each person=400m?

well it's a dash, and it's my first time running a relay%26gt;.%26gt;

how do u run one?|||The first person begins at the starting line and runs 100 meters along the first curve when the gun sounds. Then when they reach the end of the curve, they pass the baton to the second person, or the second leg in track terms. This person runs 100 meters along the straightaway then passes it to the third leg, and so on until all 4 runners finish.

Recieve the baton with you left hand, switch it into your right as soon as you get it, then pass with your right hand. When someone is about to pass it to you, start running slowly when they're around 10 or 15 feet away, then when you get the baton, sprint as fast as you can!

100 meters isn't very long so keep up your fast pace the entire time and try to hand off your baton as fast as possible so the next leg can get started as soon as possible.

Good luck! :)|||The first leg runs a 100 curve at the finish line, they pass it to the second leg who runs the straightaway, who gives it to the 3rd leg who runs the curve, who gives it to the 4th leg who runs the final straightaway. Only the first leg starts out on blocks, the other 3 runners pretend. Unlike what :] said, in a sprint such as the 4x100, you don't switch hands, you keep it in your left hand. Its the 4x4 and 4x8 that you switch hands when you get the baton.

As for tips on running the 4x1, run it exactly like you would run a regular 100, knees high, on your toes, etc. I'm assuming since your a sprinter you know the basics. What I suggest is spending time after practice working with your fellow relay runners on the hand-off, because in a sprint like the 100, 1/100ths of a second could mean the difference between going to states or finishing dead last, so work on the hand-off until it becomes almost flawless, and ask your coach for any pointers.|||This is called the 4x100 or the 400 relay, each person runs a leg of 100 meters, so you go around the track once.

The first person runs a curve, the second runs the back straight, the third runs the next curve and the last person runs the straight back to the start/finish line.
